The desperortador
sounds, an important meeting in the company, the sheets get tangled up and it’s time to join… Ups! The lumbago attacks again and you are not even able to go get your coffee, to see who tells the boss.
Back pain is not a curse, it is because we carry all the weight of the cervical, skull, thorax and arms on our lumbar region.
Each of us is responsible for the ‘maintenance’ of the spine and the muscles that support it. It is estimated that between 80 and 90% of people will have back pain at some point in their lives. Well, the vast majority of these pains are banal, caused by lack of exercise, incorrect postures, poor muscle formation, aging…
The cause that most influences the appearance of lumbago is the absence of physical exercise. “If our back hurts it is because we have not been given the appropriate treatment. But if the pain comes and goes, it’s because we’re lazy and don’t do the necessary physical activity. that performed on a regular basis reduces the risk of suffering from low back pain,” says Dr. Francisco Kovacs, director of the Spanish Network of Researchers in Back Pain, whose favorite maxim is “there are no excuses for lazy people.”
Dr. Kovacs also points out that in addition to having resistant muscles and staying physically active, it is advisable to know the rules of postural hygiene, because these also have a direct impact on the appearance of low back pain.
MISTAKES YOU SHOULDN’T MAKE
- Rest. Except in moments of acute pain, rest – even more so if it is in bed – has been banished because it unnecessarily prolongs the duration of the pain and makes it easier for it to recur later.
- Do not play sports. You have to try to maintain the highest degree of activity that the pain allows, because movement improves the formation of the muscles and tissues of the spine, which shortens the recovery time.
- Do not touch the bicycle. A common mistake is to think that back pain can worsen when taking the bicycle, but this is not the case, contrary to what is thought to be ideal for strengthening the muscles of the spine, as well as swimming.
- Take muscle relaxants. According to the available evidence, anti-inflammatories and analgesics are much more effective than muscle relaxants.
- Sleeping on a very hard mattress… or very soft. Contrary to popular belief, it is not true that a very hard mattress is recommended for back pain. A medium-firm one improves pain intensity and the degree of physical disability. It should also be firm and straight, but soft enough to adapt to the curves of the spine. A mattress that is too soft is contraindicated, because the column floats without support on it
It is necessary to know the type of back disease you suffer from in order to find the ideal mattress to solve it.
