Understanding Fibromyalgia, The Disease You Don’t See But Feel
FIBROMYALGIA is a disease that consists of a set of symptoms that are characterized by tiredness, persistent pain and stiffness of varying intensity of the muscles, tendons and surrounding soft tissue. In addition, it leads to a series of psychological symptoms such as sleep difficulties, morning stiffness, headaches and even problems with thinking and memory that make the person’s daily routine difficult.
Some of those affected may have problems with clothing, they cannot sleep with blankets or sheets. They have the feeling that they are heavy and the pain is so great that they even do without them at bedtime.
The problem with this disease is physical distancing from loved ones since contact can be painful and this leads to depression and anxiety attacks.
There are support groups for both those affected and for family members. Apafima is a non-profit association from Malaga where they offer updated information on these diseases, psychological help, advice and guidance, physiotherapy service and various workshops, courses, talks and conferences on topics of interest.
Fibromyalgia and great difficulty falling asleep
One of the big problems for people who suffer from fibromyalgia is that they can’t sleep well. Waking up always tired, difficulty falling asleep or waking up several times at night is their day to day.
Delta sleep, which is the deepest and most restful sleep, is reduced in people who suffer from fibromyalgia. That is why in the morning they are not as fresh as the rest.
How could they improve their sleep?
- Follow a bedtime routine: Reduce the physical activities you do when bedtime approaches, read a little and go to bed and get up at the same time.
- Avoid naps: When sleeping during the day you will probably find greater inconveniences to sleep at night.
- Good atmosphere, Good mattress: Control the light, noise, and temperature of the room to make it to your liking. Use a mattress with a flexible layer and a deeper hard layer.
From Micolchón we want to do everything in our power to make this disease more bearable, which is why we have specific mattresses to combat fibromyalgia pain:
- NESSEN COCO SUPREME SOFT mattress: it has a non-deformable and durable base, IRONTEXFirm of 50 kg/m3 that provides extra firmness and the Coco AirDreams that provides freshness and elasticity. - NESSEN BICONFORT mattress: With a base formed by 15 cm of profiled Irontex, which provides great elasticity, with comfort zones that eliminate pressure. And a 5 cm layer of thermosensitive Memoryvis (evolution of memory foam) that provides a cozy and beneficial sensation for the body’s rest, and a padding with 2 cm of extra Memoryvis on one side and fiber on the other so you can choose the firmness you want at any time.
