How to disinfect a mattress correctly. Step by step.

In today’s post we are going to teach you how to disinfect a mattress without the need to use complicated cleaning products. You can do it yourself mism@ with products that we normally have at home.

Keeping the mattress clean and disinfected is essential for a good night’s rest.

If we ventilate the bedroom every day and, at least once a week, wash the sheets, the mattress must also be regularly cleaned and disinfected to eliminate bad odors, stains, mites, dust and bacteria.

Steps to disinfect your mattress properly.

1. Wash your bedding.
Sheets, duvet, pillowcases and bed protector should be washed regularly. Ideally, it should be done in a wash of about 60ºC. After washing, it must be allowed to dry completely.
Check if your pillows are washable and follow the directions.

2. Vacuum the surface of the mattress.
Vacuuming the mattress will help you get rid of dust and therefore allergy-causing mites.
Water vapor is also another resource that we can use, as it allows us to kill different microorganisms.

3. Remove visible stains.
To remove stains from our mattress, the ideal is to do it with natural products and avoid chemical products. To do this, we will need a mixture of 2 parts hydrogen peroxide to one part liquid soap.
Apply to stains with a brush without soaking too much.
In case your mattress is memory foam, try to use as little foam as possible, as it is not advisable to over-wet this type of mattress.
To disinfect a mattress as much as possible, you also need to remove any bio-based stains it may have. To do this, you’ll need some enzymatic cleanser. Apply to a cloth and not directly to the mattress if it could not get too wet.

4. Allow to dry.
Once your mattress has been cleaned and disinfected, the ideal is to let it air out in the sun for at least an hour.

Once you have the mattress completely disinfected and dry, it’s time to replace all the bedding, but don’t forget to get a mattress protector to keep your mattress clean for longer and protect it from stains
