Foods that help us sleep

You already know how important it is to sleep well to maintain good health. But unfortunately, daily stress and the use of new technologies make it increasingly difficult for us to have a quality and restful sleep.

Eating well is not only important for our health, it also helps us sleep better. If you find it difficult to fall asleep at night, it may be because you are not eating what you should. In today’s post we review those foods that are beneficial to take at night and at the end we tell you a “secret” infusion that will help you sleep through the night 😉

  1. ALMONDS. Almonds contain tryptophan and magnesium, substances that help you fall asleep.
  2. OATMEAL. Oatmeal is very healthy for the cardiovascular system and consuming it 2-3 hours before going to sleep helps us relax, as it stimulates the production of melatonin.
  3. HONEY. Drinking a glass of hot milk with honey is very typical when we are little, especially when we were sick. Our mothers are very wise: the glucose in honey tells the brain to decrease the function of orexin (a substance related to wakefulness).
  4. BANANA. You can’t imagine the power of this food to help us sleep. It contains nutrients, magnesium and potassium (they work as muscle relaxants) and also stimulates the production of melatonin and serotonin. In other words, taking a banana before bed works like a sleeping pill.
  5. DAIRY PRODUCTS. Drinking a glass of milk, a piece of cheese or a yogurt a while before going to sleep provides us with tryptophan that favors the production of serotonin and melatonin.
  6. HERBAL TEA. Chamomile, lemon balm, lavender, passionflower, etc. are herbs that have relaxing properties that will help us rest much better.

These are the best foods to eat for dinner. Remember that it should never be copious and we should eat just before going to sleep, at least 2-3 hours before, so that our body has time to digest.

And as we told you at the beginning, we leave you with an infusion that will help you fall asleep very early and sleep all night in a row, try it! We are talking about a banana and cinnamon infusion. Bananas help release serotonin, which calms anxiety and relaxes us; and for its part, cinnamon acts as a natural soothing. Its preparation is easy: peel a banana and boil it in a saucepan with water for 10 minutes, then transfer the resulting liquid to a glass and add ground cinnamon and a little stevia, take it an hour before going to sleep and you will notice the results!
