Expansion Plan

Mi Colchon StoreGetting enough sleep every day guarantees a series of benefits for physical and mental health. And a fundamental element of sleep is precisely the mattress, which over the years has evolved in materials and features to turn the act of sleeping into a therapy, in addition to being a primary need. In Malaga, one of the pioneering establishments in the specialized sale of mattresses is Mi Colchón, which will open three new stores in the coming months.

“We have good expectations despite the current market situation and we will continue to grow this year with the incorporation of the establishments in Fuengirola, Antequera and Motril into the chain,” announces the commercial and logistics director of Mi Colchón, Felipe Gil. The firm will thus leave the province for the first time, entering the province of Granada.
The chain’s first establishment was inaugurated by Manuel Guerrero Hernández in 1968 in the Malaga neighborhood of El Palo. At the beginning of the new century, the chain opened a store on Eugenio Gross Street, and in 2006 inaugurated another in the Santa Bárbara Industrial Park. It was two years ago when Mi Colchón began a new stage in its expansion process with the introduction of franchises. Covering the coastal area of the province was its first objective. “It’s an interesting market, not only because of the purchasing power and population increase, but also because these are places for second homes and summer rentals,” explains Gil. Three years ago, the firm landed in Torremolinos and Vélez-Málaga. Currently, there are five stores that make up the chain. This growth has led the workforce to exceed thirty employees.

Objectives

Last year, the company sold over 10,000 mattresses, but it’s not resting on its laurels. “We know that the economy is not at its best, but our intention is to exceed last year’s sales figures,” says its commercial director. Mi Colchón markets more than a dozen brands and sells bed bases, ottoman beds, and pillows, among other items to ensure sleep.

In this regard, each year new products are presented at specialized fairs in the sector, which the chain ensures to incorporate into its network of stores, such as mattresses with coconut or soy fiber and cold gel. “They are made with three-dimensional fabrics that breathe and new generation materials that are sold in few stores,” says Felipe Gil.
