  1. Lucky grapes. The tradition par excellence in our country. Few people do not eat 12 grapes during the last seconds of the year. This tradition began in 1909, when in Spain there was a surplus of grapes and in many houses it was decided to eat them as dinner on the last day of the year. And why 12? Well, 12 is the number of the last month of the year and 12 is the time at which the end of one year and the beginning of the next coincide.
  2. Red lingerie. The origin of this tradition is not very well known or when it began to be so deeply rooted in our country. If you take a walk during the last week of the year you will see the windows of underwear stores filled with the color red. Tradition says that whoever wears red lingerie during New Year’s Eve will have a year full of love and passion. There are two other options: yellow underwear to attract money or green underwear to attract health.
  3. Toast. The toast with cava or champagne after the bells is a must since it is said that the high-pitched sound of the glasses colliding chases away evil spirits and bad vibrations.
  4. Start the year on the right foot. To have good luck in the new year, it is said that the first time of the year you leave home and enter, you do so on the right foot.
  5. Sweep the house. Sweeping the home during the last hours of the year to expel sorrows and negativity. Of course, sweep in the direction of the street door, not inwards.
  6. Gold in the cup. Beware of this tradition because there is a danger of choking. It is said that if you put some gold jewellery in your glass of cava or champagne during the first toast of the year, you will have great riches , will we have to try it to see if we get out of the crisis this year, right?
  7. A year full of food. To make sure that next year there will be nothing missing in your pantry, they say that you only have to have a full fridge on the last and first day of the year.
  8. For travelers. If what you want is a year full of travel and adventure, take a suitcase to the door of the house during the last hours of the 31st, or if you prefer to avoid running the risk of running out of it, take a walk with the suitcase on your back.
