We start April, and with it we also want to feel healthy and improve our lifestyle.
When we start to use our free time to feel better, we don’t just change our diet and train or play sports for hours, there is another essential point that usually goes unnoticed and is essential for these changes to be effective. REST.
This post is dedicated to both people who are dedicated to sports and those who want to start exercising.
And as soon as we start we ask ourselves,
How does rest influence the quality of our training?
There are two essential variables,
- And just like meals, rest is not only about quantity, but also about quality
- In the same way, you also need guidelines or routine, such as when training
If we consult professionals, they always recommend training less time and more intensely, than prolonging it longer in a dispersed way, such as when we work or study, it is always more effective to dedicate little time productively than to spend all day with it but without performing at all.
Therefore, especially if we are starting to practice some type of sport, a very common mistake is to start training without previously dedicating time to warm up and prepare our body, or to go out training more often because we are looking to lose weight as quickly as possible.
We reduce our diet, practice sports without preparing and do not respect rest intervals, the only thing we achieve is damage our body and possibly cause muscle injuries.
Let’s see what we achieve by resting correctly and how to do it:
We tend to pay attention only to physical rest, but it is essential to rest on an emotional level as well. This is essential for a positive attitude and good mood.
If we get a good rest, our body increases the production of testosterone, the basic hormone of the athlete, we will also reduce stress, and our muscles will recover when resting. The body recovers the dose of energy and vitality to make the most of our workouts.
And you may be wondering, how much rest should I get?
Well, experts always recommend about 8 hours in a row during the night, we emphasize that they are “continuous”, if we do it intermittently, the rest will not be productive and we will be altering our body.
In order to get this continuous and restful rest, it is always recommended to practice some physical activity, adjust it to our schedule as long as it is 4 hours before bedtime, otherwise our body will be activated and it will be difficult for us to fall asleep.
With this we come to the conclusion that rest is just as important to you as feeding ourselves or any other essential function. The metabolic and neuromuscular effects need rest to take place, since hormones are activated after exercise and are elevated more during the night.
Another aspect in which a good rest helps us is to deal with sleep disorders. This type of disorder is reflected on a physical and emotional level, which causes us to perform neither physically nor mentally.
If we perform a daily physical activity, in an entertaining way such as swimming, dancing, cycling, and not a severe workout that we see as unattainable, always taking into account the necessary rest intervals so as not to take our body to unnecessary limits, and we complement it with a correct, proportionate and well-distributed diet, we will be able to meet our needs successfully.
The main idea of this article is to highlight that it is as important to move as it is to eat, without forgetting to create a REST routine so that our body recovers and we are full of energy, and thus achieve the greatest efficiency in our sports performance.
